While in her second year of engineering school, Virginia DeGiorgi became intrigued with how and why things break rather than building things. As a result, she is a world recognized expert in corrosion system modeling. Often the only woman in the room at technical meetings, Virginia is a talented scientific researcher, program manager and team leader.  Having authored or co-authored 147 technical publications, she also has received many awards, including the rank of Wessex Institute of Technology Fellow and American Society of Mechanical Engineers Fellow.  The rank of Fellow is the highest rank technical societies can award their members.  “ABWA has played an important role in my life since 1988” she says.  “It has provided me skills required for my chosen profession of research  engineer.  The ability to project confidence, communicate, build teams of diverse individuals, plan and follow through, and other leadership skills were all necessary to create the Dr. DeGiorgi who is well respected in the international research community.”
